Vorwort
Love is… green? In Farben the vivid storytelling game every colour tells a story. Associate a colour with a word and then tell a story why you connect those two.
Even people who consider themselves uncreative will find this magical moment where stories emerge as if by themselves.
Share your moving, beautiful, funny (or even embarrassing) stories. Instead of being just the narrator you often become the main actor in the stories you tell in Farben.
Storytelling is deeply rooted in humans and colours touch us at an emotional level. Those two elements combined make Farben something unique.
The innovative, minimalistic design from award-winning Coding and Design Agency 101 gives the players complete freedom to tell the stories they want to share.
This way it creates space for your wonderful stories without steering you in any direction.
What could an example round look like?
The word in the centre of the table is ‘School’.
- Player 1 played purple: ‘I dyed my hair purple, purchased leather gear for several 100 dollars, and wore make-up in my very short Goth-phase. I quickly realized that I didn’t fit in the scene as I am a rather happy person and have a hard time not constantly smiling.’
- Player 2 played red: ‘My high school time was very stressful because I wasn’t a good student. I worried before each exam, how I am going to explain all the mistakes marked with red to my parents.’
- Player 3 played black: ‘I was totally in love with a fellow student from another class. I got up every day at 6:30 am to catch the early bus to ride with her to school. It was still very dark at that time, that’s why I chose black.’
Details - How do you play?
Each round you associate one of your 12 Colour Cards with a Word Card in the centre of the table and start telling a story.
After all players told their story the Colour Cards are tucked below the Word Card and put aside.
So now you only have 11 colours left to choose from in the next round.
After ten words have been played the Scoring Phase begins. Another player selects a word for you.
Now it is your task to recall all the colours played by the other players and yourself without looking.
You get points for correctly naming the colours. This sounds almost impossible at first but through the stories the colours become easier to remember.
Additionally, you get points on the other players turns when they can remember your colour.
You win the game if you can remember best who assigned which colour to specific words and if multiple players can remember the colours you assigned to the words.
Farben works well as starter, filler and wrap up-game but isn’t exclusively for board gamers. Play Farben as the perfect icebreaker, a gateway for non-players, an amazing team-building exercise, a fun way to learn things you didn’t know about your best friends and much more.
